What does stripping membranes feel like?

I'll be 39 weeks and 4 days next monday at my appointment and my doctor wants to know if I would like to have my membranes stripped if my cervix is open enough. What does this feel like? I had my cervix checked yesterday and to me that was pretty darn uncomfortable in itself. I hate pain and am nervous as heck but want to push labor along if possible. I'm now taking Evening PrimRose "internally" to help soften my cervix before my next visit. Will this decrease the pain any? AHHH!!!!!

okay, stripping the membranes feels a little akward, like when you get a pap smear and they insert the speculum thing. the primrose wont help the pain, but it will help progress dialation, its not a painful experience, but just uncomfortable. but it is worth it. some of the induction drugs they would give you in the hospital cause more pain, like harder contractions then what is necessary. but i found that having my membranres stripped wasnt a bad experience.

Reply:It hurts bad! I have had it down with all 3 of my pregnancies and I have cried all 3 times. I don't of any way to keep it from hurting or make it hurt any less. Maybe take some Tylenol before your appointment. Good luck.
Reply:I had mine stripped today at 37 weeks. I have gestational diabetes and always have early deliveries. Sometimes induced, sometimes not. This is my second time having them stripped and it is uncomfortable since the doctor's hand is deep inside of you and he or she is seperating your membranes from your cervix. But it is over quickly and after being sore for a while, you will either start contractions soon and get labor started, your bag of waters may break, or nothing will happen. It just depends. Everyone is different. I hope it does get you started, I am hoping for the same thing. My bag of waters busted the last time and we got to have our baby that day. Today I am sore but nothing has happened yet. Just a few contractions.
