Has anyone heard of this?

I went to my 38 week appoinment today. My midwife told me to take evening primrose oil. Twice a day by mouth and once vaginally in the evening. It has prostaglandins in it and will help to soften my cervix. I am 1cm, 60% effaced and baby is at station -1. Hopefully it will help. Have any of you tried this and it worked? Ane one else heard of it? Thanks for your help. Oh yah and she said that I will feel some cramping after taking it. Did you feel this?

Has anyone heard of this?
I have not had to use this yet, since all of mine are early, but my best friend did. She did it exactly like your midwife said and less than 4 days later, Her cervix thinned to nothing, and she went into labor that evening. She did have cramps, but not a lot more than what you would feel with your period. It will probably be more uncomfortable since you are so far, but it is definitely worth a try. Also, call your local health food store and they can explain more to you! Good luck.
Reply:I've heard of it, but I don't know anyone who has done it.
Reply:evening primrose oil has been used to help ease and bring on labor for centuries, my mom has used it with all of her 6 kids, 4 of which were home births, the cramping is natural because it's necessary to bring on labor.

God bless,

if you have any more questions i'd be happy to ask my mom, she's a pro at this after 6 kids, and i might be pregnant with #1 too!

Reply:I have heard of it, but myself never tried it. I tried everything else, Walking 2 miles a day, eating pasta, eating hot wings, and having sex....nothing seemed to help! The baby will come when he/she is ready! Hope it helps!
Reply:I have never known a midwife to prescribe evening of Primrose Oil, but I know that prostaglandins are commonly used for this purpose. And you do feel cramping after using it.
Reply:I haven't done it but I have heard of it. It is supposed to work similarly to having sex when you are due as the mans semen also contains prostagladins with help to soften your cervix. I really don't know if it works or if it is just a coincidence that you happen to go into labour after using them as you are almost ready to go into labour anyway! But it certainly can't hurt!!! Best of luck.
Reply:I've done evening primrose, black cohosh, you name it. It may make things happen more quickly, but it won't put you into labor automatically.
