Midwifes use evening primrose oil, and all these natural tecniques.. why do they do this if they are all 'do things natures' way?' I am just curious. I am GLAD my midwife is on top of getting my baby out and encouraging him the natural way... but isn't that against their practice? Today she even stripeed my membranes and I am not quite 40 weeks (but that might be because my baby is already over 9 lbs)...
Just curious.. I am happy that she is doing something, lol
If the baby comes when it's ready why do holistic midwifes use natural methods to get baby out when 38 weeks?
I agree that it does seem to be a contradiction. But I think they do it because the c-section rate is high and they think if they do something earlier it will lower your chances of having to have one. That's just my opinion, though.
Reply:I think you've answered your own question:
"I am GLAD my midwife is on top of getting my baby out..."
Consumer demand!
(Better question: why are you glad to have a midwife into fussing with natural processes? I don't get it...)
Reply:I dont know about where you are from, but where I am from midwifes have to get a doctor to give prescriptions. So I would think that pitocin is a "Prescription" Therefore your midwife would have to call in another doc. So if they can induce you naturaly then they dont need the doctor. I know that if I want pain meds then the doctor will have to come and give them to me. Good Luck
Reply:Perhaps you're not progressing at all and she'd like to help you along. Depends on your midwife really but at least she is taking natural induction steps rather than that horrible pitocin.
Reply:I don't know all the midwives I know only start nudging things along at 42 weeks, or if there is some sort of a reason to get the baby out sooner.
