Menopause!i need something for my attitude!!!!!!!.........?
I'm 53, now postmenopausal, and I tried a lot of things. The B complex vitamins are good but you probably don't need an added multivitamin if you are eating properly. Omega-3 works well. You must take one that has an EPA(eicosapentaenoic acid) of over 400 mg. and a DHA(docosahexaenoic acid) of over 200 mg. It's not enough to just take any old omega oil because it's those two acids that are the important ones for mood stabilizing. Also make sure that it is molecularly distilled and purified. My friend Karen is a pharmacist and they have done many studies here in Canada on herbal remedies for any number of ailments and evening primrose oil does nothing at all for menopause. If people say it helps them, remember that in studies even a placebo(sugar pill) works 3 out of 5 times because psychologically they want to believe it, even if research has proven otherwise. Also a lot of herbal remedies are not regulated so you often don't know what your getting. According to Karen, they've found digoxin, which is a heart medication, in one "natural" herb medication. The person taking this "natural" herb had to be hospitalized for an irregular heartbeat which is a very serious thing. What I'm trying to say is be careful what you take because just because it's an herbal medication like black cohosh or evening primose oil doesn't mean it's a good thing. The Omega 3s have not had any adverse problems provided you get one that's been distilled and purified.

I know I was very emotional, cried a lot and hardly ever slept, still don't, because of the hormone fluctuation so I think I'd have been better off if my doctor had given me a sedative to knock me out completely for 7 yrs. Just kidding, but not really.

One more thing, exercise is definitely good if you can just motivate your *** to do it.
Reply:The only thing that has helped me is to go on estrogen,I was about your age when i went on it, It is a life saver and just today my Dr told me that Estrogen does NOT cause breast cancer....Thats new data from the breast meeting class he just went to last month.....There is no need for you to suffer...Thats for the olden days
Reply:perhaps you should try cream of sumyunguy
Reply:My mom swears by kava kava powder. You can buy it in health food stores. When she gets up in the morning, she makes a slim fast shake witha big dollop of kava kava and a multivitamin. I also take kava kava tincture around my monthlies... it really does work. A shot is like an instant mellower.

Reply:Good nutrition will help ease the symptoms of menopause by supplying a changing body with the nutrients necessary for optimal health throughout this transitional phase.Get enough calcium. A woman going through menopause needs 1000 mg to 1500 mg of calcium a day. Avoid excessive amounts of salt to reduce bloating associated with hormonal changes.
