I have a question about evening primrose oil..?

EPO or Evening Primrose Oil. Take two daily and insert 2 vaginally in the evening beginning at 37wks, or have your partner massage the oil into your cervix. EPO has precursers to prostagladin which helps rippen ones cervix. have used these methods to bring on labor with my last two children, and have worked as an aprentice midwife.



i found this when researching it, it was an answer to inducing, I was wondering is this effective, I have heard that castor oil can cause bowel movement in baby but when i researched this it was due to the mother becoming dehydrated which caused it to go to the baby not because castor oil had been taken, all the same I will not take this but am considering evening primrose oil as a way of maybe self inducing when i am term...?? what are your experiences and is this true and effective?xxx

EPO will unfortunately not bring on labour contractions...but it will help to ripen or soften your cervix. I used this vaginally...not orally because I hate swallowing pills...I am 37 weeks and 2days and I am already 3cm dilated. You just have to make sure that the capsules are placed right up against the cervix or they won't work. You may need your partner to help with that. Good luck...and P.S. it does take some time to work so if you are close to 37weeks then you can start now....PPS...I'm not a doctor...just giving my advice based on my personal experience only...always consult your doc or midwife if you have a concern.
Reply:I'm a little hesitant to mess with mother nature. I generally followed my body's lead. If I felt like taking a walk, I'd give it heck (the baby dropped into position when I did that). If I felt the nesting instinct, I went with it (that time it was 3 weeks before my due date...I went into labor 2 days later) Your body knows what it is doing, so just trust it.
