I'm thinking around 38 weeks is a good time, but should I wait until 40 weeks?
By 'self' inducing I mean walking, having sex (to start labor-not just for pleasure), pressure points, primrose oil etc.... (nothing weird like breaking my own bag of waters.... that would just be labeled insane!)
How far along is a good time to start 'self' inducing?
I don't really think anything works to induce you unless you are just about to go into labour anyway. There is nothing wrong with walking or having sex at any time though! I have heard that evening primrose oil can help but I would wait until your due date to start using it as babies are supposed to be in there for 40 weeks or thereabouts so having them come earlier isn't a good thing for them. Whatever you do...NEVER use castor oil.
My sister made me drink a whole bottle mixed with orange and pineapple juice when I was a couple of days overdue with my first son. All it did was make me violently ill...vomiting AND diarrhea for almost 2 days. When I finally had my son naturally 8 days later....he had pooed inside me and the doctors said that the castor oil had put him inot distress and that is why he had done this. Apparently it can make them very ill if they swallow their poo so I was very lucky he hadn't!
Apparently it is supposed to work by making your bowel spasm...and boy does it spasm!...which is supposed to stimulate your uterus into contracting. I firmly believe that the only time it seems castor oil 'works' is if you are about to go into labour anyway. Then it is all a big coincidence! And who wants to deal with diarrhea and bowel spasms when your are in labour? Labour pains are bad enough and I never want to squirt my doctor or anyone else with diarrhea when I am giving birth!!!!!
Best of luck with your birth!
Reply:never. let baby come when its ready
Reply:I would not before 37 weeks but after that I wouldn't try anything crazy but walking and sex never hurt anyone! Just don't get to excited because the baby will come when it wants! Good Luck!
Reply:do nothing it will come by it's self.
Reply:Most of the self induceing things don't really have any proof that they work, but if you really insist upon trying it's not reccomended untill after your due date.
Reply:you should wait at least 40 weeks.. although the baby is considered developed at 37.. that is an average.. your child may be taking a little time... if u do not go into labor until 40 weeks.. then it should be safe by then.. and u should not have sex if ur water breaks.. i know for some people the water will break.. but u dont go into labor for some time..
Reply:my friend walked 5-10 miles a day trying to get her baby to come, it didn't work, they induced her in the hospital with drugs. most of that stuff is just a myth.
you don't want to force the baby to come until they're developed
you wouldn't want to eat a raw turkey right, so let the baby bake as long as possible. It's healthier for them. :0)
Reply:I tried all of those things and even castor oil.None of which worked. The effects of castor oil can leave your rear end very sore! In the end, I had a glass of red wine(yes, it's safe) and moved some furniture around. Then I took a nice hot bath.30 min later when I got out, my water started leaking.
