i am actually using the oil for perineal massage and wondered if anyone else did the same and what they noticed. i am not taking the pills. thanks.
Anyone using evening primrose oil?
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.....EVENING PRIMROSE OIL IS VERY POTENT AND SHOULD NOT BE USED WITHOUT YOUR MIDWIFE KNOWING...YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO USE IT UNLESS YOU ARE AT LEAST 39 WEEKS PREGNANT AS IT CAN CAUSE YOU TO GO INTO LABOR...39 WEEKS AND OVER IS USUALLY PRETTY SAFE, BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL YOUR MIDWIFE...IF UNDER 39 WEEKS PLEASE STOP USING IT NOW...USE A DIFFERENT VEGETABLE BASED OIL INSTEAD...EVEN TOPICALLY IT CAN CAUSE LABOR
i was told by my midwife not to use it until 39 weeks....i have also read books that suggest not to use it until it is safe if labor were to start...."if evening primrose oil gets on your cervix it will cause it to ripen and dialate"...Wise Woman Herbal the Childbearing Year ...BY: Susun Weed....because there are soo many effective oils to use, why be risky?...the intention of evening primrose oil is to help a hard cervix or OS...there are soo many oils out there that are equally as effective
Reply:EPO does NOT cause labor, it only ripens the cervix. But it should not be used until 36 weeks gestation.
I never did peineal massage in preparation for labor, just take your time during labor, and let the baby ease his way out, don't let the nurses/dr tell you to push till blue in the face!
ETA: I used EPO for weeks with my last baby, internally, up to 8 capsules a day.... it only gives your body the tools to do what it should naturally, if your body isn't ready to go into labor, it won't.
