iv read about using evening primrose oil with red raspberry leaf tea to help prepare the body for labour.
iv read about inserting them vaginally, are there special ones you get for this or is it just the ones you would swallow?
iv just bought some capsules which are 1000mg
is it safe to swallow one and also insert one vaginally?,
or should i just do one or the other?
thanks
ps... im 38+ weeks
Evening primrose to induce labour???
I have NEVER heard of taking them vaginally! just take them orally! that's what they're made for!
Reply:Try a hot curry and sex, that should do the job !!!! ( a little difficult i know, but it should work)
Reply:It won't work. Labour is triggered by hormones which are released by the baby. You can try doing things which will irritate the uterus, but it's doubtful that it will have any effect.
Some people take things to irritate their bowel - such as a strong curry in the hope that it will start labour.
Reply:I wouldn't risk inserting anything vaginally. Lets face it you have waited 38 weeks, surely another couple of weeks (most likely less) won't hurt to wait, i have had 3 babies so i know how eager you are to get out of there, baby will come when it is good and ready and not before. How would you feel if you used something like that and something happened to your baby, you would never know if that was the cause or not and would never forgive yourself. be a little more patient and wait it out, it will be worth it in the end.
Reply:dont insert anything!!!
clary sage in the bath and keep taking the odd sniff throughout the day.
it worked for me.
Reply:Umm!!! I really dont know, I have not heard of this before but I would not take or insert any kinda pills. Birth is a natural thing your body with natural prepare itself.
Reply:Can I ask why you are wanting to induce this early? Baby really will come when all things are ready. I know you are probably ready to meet your bundle of joy(i've been there) but if you rush it, it can lead to serious complications. Any way to answer your question. No it won't induce labor it just ripens your cervix. Yes you can take one orally and vaginally. You can use the same capsules( I am assuming they are gel caps) just take a small pin and put a couple of pin holes in the capsule before inserting it into the vagina. Good luck and I hope you aren't rushing things.
Reply:i'll tell you that i tried both the tea and primrose oil i did both swallow and vaginally. it did not work. i actually ended up having to be induced at 40 weeks because my cervix was not doing anything, it stayed hard and closed.
a few weeks after my son was born i found an article about the evening primrose oil and how it can actually cause the opposite of what it's supposed to.
i really wish i hadn't tried it and maybe i would have gone into labor naturally.
that's my experience
i've learned that the baby is going to come out when it's good and ready no matter what you do.. unless if you have a c-section of course.
what my dr recommended was sex for me to try to get my cervix to ripen. he said walking wouldn't work for me, it only works if you are already starting to dilate and walking would only tire me out for a labor that I would need energy for.
yes you should try to relax and enjoy this time, i know though how hard it can be to wait much longer! I hope I'll be more patient next time!!!! think of your baby and his/her safety and health.
Reply:my daughter took raspberry leaf tea both as a drink and capsules for weeks but had the worst labour ever so not sure it works. wont do harm tho.
