Primrose Oil?
Primrose and Raspberry Leaf will not work for every woman, but they are safe to try, as long as you are not a high risk pregnancy and you are "full term." Evening Primrose Oil is not meant to cause labor anyway, but only to tone the uterus for labor.

My midwife told me 1500mg to 2000 mg per day. The oil can also be applied to the cervix. You can poke a hole in the capsule, squeeze the oil onto a tampon and wear it overnight.

I also took Red Raspberry Leaf capsules in my last few weeks of pregnancy. I had a lot of good Braxton-Hicks contractions and my labor was very effective and bleeding after birth was minimal.
Reply:I actually have been looking for something to self induce, and in looking I have come across many things that state that Primrose and Red Raspberry Leaf will not start contractions or induce labor, but rather that they simply help tone up the uterus and focus braxton hicks better for when the big day does arrive =(

Just thought I would pass that along since I wanted to try the raspberry tea and was let down upon reading that ( I just really don't think I could do the castor oil thing YUCK! lol) Good luck though ^_^
Reply:My midwife told me to put two capsules up by my cervix when I was going into labor to soften my cervix.

During my last 6 weeks of pregnancy I was supposed to take two a day orally.
Reply:i would ask your doctor he or she will know what is best for your body type and size plus they would know all your health history and that of your babys. good luck
Reply:Okay sweetie today is your lucky day. Im a certified nurse midwife in practice for 13 years. I will tell you that primrose isnt something i would suggest for inducing labor. My suggestion would be 4oz of castor oil wash it down with either rootbeer or orange juice. The taste isnt that bad its just a little thick but its not bad at all. What this does is aggitates the intestinal tract which rubs against the uterus. This causes contractions and has always worked with all my ladies that are willing to try. Your 39 weeks so it sould work for you. Primrose oil is more of a uterine muscle toner then an actual stimulant strong enough to cause productive contractions.
