What is the best dye to dye loose covers of a sofa suite?

I'm not sure which type of dye to use to dye the loose covers from my two sofas. The material is a thick quality cotton. Someone suggested dye that you use in washing machine, how would you ensure they were all the same colour as I would have to do 3-4 loads. The suite is a primrose yellow, ideally I wanted cream but obviously that will not work so I thought maybe a brown/beige colour. I am in England so please no answers suggesting foreign products.

Thank you.

How funny I have the same coloured suite with loose covers. And I wanted to dye it. However, I found it very difficult to find the right colour as like you I wanted a cream colour. So I bought dylon colour reducer and it has come up very light cream. I looks good, but it was an expensive project.

You might find that dylon will be able to offer you discount on a bulk purchase. I never had the brains to think of this. Try this website.

If you have a three seater settee you must get the dry weight of it to find out how much reducer you need.

Is yours a Tretra suite by any chance? If so it would have come with two sets of covers. The other colour of mine is dark burgundy which I put on over the winter months. I keep the light one for Summer.

Good luck and email if you need anymore information.

JANE WAS UNABLE TO EMAIL YOU BACK PROBLEM WITH VERIFICATION OF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS OR SOMETHING. TRY AND EMAIL ME AGAIN AND I WILL TRY AGAIN. OKAY.

Reply:Why not avoid the risk of ruining an expensive couch and go around to some antique linen and upholstery stores as well as consignment shops that carry linen, blankets and upholstery? Call around and tell them what you are looking for and bring along a picture of the couch. Look through some samples from various magazines.

It is better than ruining that couch and having to replace it later. Imagine having to call the movers to remove that thing. It might damage the walls. I doubt your boyfriend/husband would want to do that as well.
Reply:If you have laundromats over there that has Hugh washing machines, try them . They may even do it for you. Other wise, try putting a beige dye on them. Try one piece first .It may just be able to give you a cream . I'd definitely use liquid dye, and cool water.,{the hot water would shrink your cotton material}. If you don't have this, and have to use package dry dye,Just mix all your dye with hot water, let it cool ,then use on your fabric.

Years ago I dyed a carpet this way, that was down on the floor over linoleum. I did this on my hands and knees, with a brush. It came out fine, and even. Good luck over there! P.S. I DID NOT RINSE THE CARPET.IT did not come off on feet after drying.
Reply:Yellow to a "light" beige is going to be hard, since the yellow may be too dark; But a dark brown should be easy enough; Do you have RIT dye over there? If so, try that, but make sure to check the bottles to make sure they have the same serial numbers on it, otherwise, you may have 2 different shades of brown....good luck; Personally, I don't like dark brown, but good luck!
Reply:Try Dylon products ,they have dyes to cover everything.

Good luck!!!!
Reply:1 800 to buy dye, this dye is fiber reactive, means that is actually dyes the fibers and doesn't just dye the top fibers, and you can mail order.
