I stopped taking the Yasmin contraceptive pill over a year ago, and since then my periods have been very irregular and are still not back to normal - I generally have one every 2 to 3 months or so. I take evening primrose oil as this is supposed to help with hormone balance. I am slightly underweight but not enough to cause amenorrhea. I saw the doctor last year in october, and my hormone levels were normal - the advice was simply to wait-and-see. I am planning to go and see the doctor again at some point soon as it is nearly 6 months later, but was just wondering if anyone had any advice in the meantime, or has had the same experience?
How can I get my hormones back to normal?
I've had both the injection and the oral pill microgynon.
It took me about 18 months to even have my first period after taking the last pill. After visiting the doctor I was told that I shouldn't take the pill at all because of the hormone imbalances it caused. I eventualy got my cylcle back to normal but I just had to wait it out. It took just over 2years.
If your overly concerned then visit your GP again but I'm sure if you were told to wait then that's all you can do.
Reply:I stopped taking the contraceptive injection depo-provera in October '04. It was only 18 months later that my periods returned to some sort of normality, but I still missed the odd one. I saw the doctor regularly though this, and I was ovulating and my hormones were normal - I just wasn't bleeding. He said not to worry, sometimes it takes up to 2 years for the periods to start to get back to normal. Talking to many people, it seems to be a very common thing, and all you can do is wait and see it seems! With all the fuss the injection caused, I swore I'd never go back on it. But, here I am again using it - seems to be the only contraception that suits me!
Reply:Yes, when I went off the pill it took a while for things to settle down for me too, my periods only turned up when they felt like it. I think it took me a good 6 to 12 months for things to settle. Hope this helps, Penny xx
