What to do about painful menstrual periods?

Every month I always deal with painful menstrual periods. Mostly irritability, really painful stomach cramps, and lower back pain. I'm starting to get a little tired of having to deal with painful menstrual periods so I'm looking for ways to alleviate or stop the pain. I read somewhere that calcium (1,000 mg) and magnesium (500 mg) relaxes the uterine muscle, prevents menstrual cramps, and alleviates PMS tension. I'm considering taking a calcium and magnesium supplement but do I need to take this before my period starts, during my period, or after my period or should I be taking it all the time? Also I read that Evening Primrose oil helps regulate Prostaglandins so should I be taking this before my period starts, during my period, or after my period or full time? I heard somewhere that Red Raspberry Leaves is good for toning the uterus and also helps prevent menstrual cramps so should I be taking this before my period, during my period or after my period or full time?

Reply:I used to have awful periods...particularly the first day...I'd have bad cramps...couldn't go anywhere, do anything, would lie in bed but couldn't sleep bcoz of the pain and would throw up every single month. However, when I started going to the gym, it stopped hurting...I have no idea why though. A couple of years ago I went on the pill and I have been too busy to go to the gym, but I don't get any pains being on the pill. Hope this helps.
Reply:Try Evening Primrose oil. Works wonders, it helps reduce PMS symptoms. Or theres the combined pill. The pill reduces PMS signs and regulate your periods, down to 21 days.
Reply:Have you tried Midol and Motrin???
