I am 38 weeks pregnant and was told by a friend to try Primrose oil to help soften my cervix. I was wondering if it works and how long it takes to soften it up if it works.
Primrose oil when pregnant?
I have been taking raspberry leaf since I was 33 weeks and I plan on starting evening primrose oil at 36 weeks. I was told by my doctor it was ok to do so at 36 weeks.
It doesn't induce labor, it just gets your cervix prepared for labor so you don't have to be induced.
There are many beneficial things about it, so its a great thing to have around while you are this far along.
It will help your cervix progress now and in labor which can lead to a quick labor and delivery.
A term pregnancy is 37 weeks, so as long as you get the ok with your doc, go for it!
Good luck!
Reply:Don' t do things like that without doctor approval. Everyone reacts differently to those type of treatments.
Reply:My best friend said she used it for a week and it worked like a charm
Reply:I would ask your doctor before doing anything, so it won't hurt the baby
Reply:Well, Evening Primrose Oil doesn't have any warning about not to take it while pregnant/nursing (which is required if there is a problem with it), so it should be perfectly fine to take.
If you are taking any drugs, you should check with a doctor or pharmacist to make sure if it would be safe with that, but should be fine to use during pregnancy.
However, there is some varying opinions on the internet as to if it's safe or not, so as with anything else, when in doubt, check with your doctor.
Reply:If you're 38 weeks pregnant, why do you need to rush the softening of your cervix? It'll do it's job in the time it's supposed to. Let mother nature run it's course- it's not something that you should mess with. You only have 2 more weeks till you're full term anyhow!
Reply:Worked great for me. I took orally and inserted vaginally for about three days. *BUT* ask your midwife as I only started it when I was one week past my "due" date (which is an estimate on either side of two weeks) AND I had absolutely no effacement or dilation at that point. You should make sure it's something you actually need...it will not "bring on" labor though. That's up to Baby! (p.s. make sure it's Evening Primrose Oil in capsules like vitamin E oil).
Reply:Yes, it works. I used it with all three pregnancies and was told by my midwife as well to put two inside my vagina by my cervix to help soften it further for the last two weeks of my pregnancy. Worked like a charm!!
