Evening Primrose Oil?

I'm 39.5 weeks, 30% effaced and a centimeter dilated. At my visit with my midwife today she suggested I try taking 3-6 capsules of evening primrose oil vaginally 1-4 times a day to help soften my cervix and possibly bring on labor. I'm wondering if anyone has done this with success? If so, please share your story.

Evening Primrose Oil?
My mom used the evening primrose oil for all three of us kids and yes it does help bring labor on quicker. It says to bot use before 36 weeks because it may cause preterm labor. It also helps so that you don't tear or half to get cut. I am going to use it before I have my baby. My mom swears by it and so do a lot of midwifes.
Reply:My midwife had me do this with my last one. I actually took them by mouth, twice a day. I did this, walked a lot, and had my husband try the whole nipple stimulation thing. Sure enough, I went in and was dilated to 5 cm! At that point my midwife inserted some primrose oil vaginally to soften me up. I had my baby shortly thereafter. Primrose oil has prosteglandins in it, which soften the cervix for labor. Sperm would have the same effect. Try both! :)
Reply:I have heard of this and it worked with a good friend of mine. It made her labor less painful. It sure would be worth trying.
Reply:I am doing that as well. I poke a pin in it and put it up me as far as I can. I take it before I lay down at night as it will tend to dip out and I wear panties. I have an appointment tom. So we'll see if I am effaced, it has been a week now. I am 39 weeks:)
Reply:I have done this with a large amount of success...Good Luck.
