Pushing when you are not fully dilated will sometimes cause your cervix to swell and then it will take even longer to get to the pushing/delivering stage. Squatting and walking will help you along faster and also bouncing on a birthing ball.

Good luck!!!
Reply:No and it can do permanent damage to you and the baby. Don't push until you're at ten cm's! The best thing to do is let gravity do it's job. Go for a walk. As someone mentioned it can slow it down because it causes a swelling in the cervix which then has to go away before you can get the baby through. Just let it open itself. Congrats!
Reply:No pushing . . . but walking is what they say!!!

Best of luck.
Reply:No!!! Don't push at all until you're about to give birth. It can cause major problems. As for safer alternatives, squatting on a ball can help, also I would try nipple stimulation. That's the safest way to bring on contractions. Good luck to you...
Reply:Do not push before fully dilated, it can damage your cervix.
Reply:I believe pushing before you are fully dialated actually slows your dilation down. I don't know of anything to speed it up but good luck!
