i'm pretty underweight, and i've been on birth control for 3 months. my doctor said i can go off the pills anytime i want, so i'm not taking them anymore. but i'm wondering, can taking evening primrose oil regulate my period? Do they help you produce more estrogen, or whatever hormones i need for a regular period? thanks! besides evening primrose oil, what else could act as a natural estrogen? thank you very much!
Can evening primose oil help a person underweight w/ irregular period have a more regulated cycle?
You're "pretty underweight"? It seems gaining weight would be the only reliable way to regulate your period...being significantly underweight is definately what is making you irregular. Just as when girls who are extremely involved in athletics, or suddenly start exercise dramatically in a way they hadn't before are likely to have irregular periods, so are women who are underweight. This is because your body is trying to hold onto all of the energy that it can to feed a demanding exercise regimine, or a starving body. The energy that your body would expend is better served to keep you alive, rather than have your period, so that is why you're irregular.
Going back on the pill might also help, but being underweight it's no promise. And in case you went off the pill because you wan't to get pregnant, do yourself and your baby a favor and eat healthy.
Talk to your doctor about your weight and period problems, I'm sure they'll have plenty of suggestions.
Reply:Yes, EPO helps the body regulate the hormones.
Another form of natural estrogen is in Yams. Eat them frequently. Use them instead of sweet potatoes.
Reply:First, get your weight up. Second, the evening primrose has been a GODSEND to me. My Ob/gyn added one vitamin E daily to that. The evening primrose is a plant estrogen, and she told me the vitamin E is also. Meantime, you won't have regular periods if you are very underweight. Talk to your doctor about this please.
