My Rottweiler Heidi has arthritis in her front elbow. Can anyone help?

She is taking glucosamine and evening primrose tablets and is on pain killers sometimes. Does anyone know of any other remedies that might help her.

Hey my German Shepherd had the same in her back knee and couldn't place the leg down and often screamed with pain ( she was ten years at the time ). My vet is super and really wanted to try a more natural remedy instead of pain killing anti-inflammitories. The dog was put on CARTROPHEN injections ... weekly at first, then monthly and the difference is amazing. I have a leaflet here if you need more info ........ see their website below but more importantly see your vet. Please let me know if you try this.

We also tried a magnetic collar ... its still on her .... but who knows?
Reply:I know Heidi well and these were some great thoughtful answers.

Heidi is a lovely dog and I know Barbs would do anything in the world to try and make her life easier. Report It

You can also give her half a baby asprin if shes in a lot of pain (my friend is a vetinary nurse) she told me this as have other vets.
Reply:There are many canine acupuncturists who can really help. I mean, I have seen the results!

Look in your yellow pages, or on line with your zip code, and see if you can find one near.

If you have no luck in finding one at a reasonable price, then email me and i will help you search.
Reply:my geat dane has been on glucosamine for years and rimadyl for pain when she needs it, you can hardly tell she has problems. good luck on your rott!
Reply:my boxer had the same problem do you feed him with vitamin A products ! it could make the pain ! i just cut out everything with the vitamin a and gave him glucosamine and the pain gone
Reply:Gold Bead Implants are a permanent form of acupuncture. Check on the net for info about it. This outpatient procedure was invented by Dr. Durkes in Marion, Ind. He has taught some other around the country to do it, but they are few and far between. I had this done for a dog that had serious back problems. She never needed another pain pill.
Reply:HI we use to breed rottys and my last one i at the age of 16yrs. when she was ten i took her to the vet to be told she to had arthritis at the age of 10yrs. tried the pills vet gave my. but didn't make much difference.i was then told about pills from the health shop.i had never tried other remedies but i would have tried anything i was so worry-ed.i for get the name of them. but they are easy to find. they are in a pale green plastic tub. and there remedies for most things. if you go to the health shop and ask. tell them what they are for. and tell them they are in a pale green tub with a white top. they still have them as when i do go in now i always think of my dog when i see them.they worked wonders for her. six years on she diead in her sleep peacefully and she have never suffered with the arthritis for the six years she was taking them. i wish you all the best with her and know how you feel. if for some season you Carnot find them please feel free to email me and i will willingly call in the health shop and find the name of them regards sammylee,
Reply:Depends what type of arthritis it is, post back and let us know.

Heat is the best thing, you can treat your dog to a heat lamp and a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Get her a sheepskin blanket (like an old coat from a charity shop ) and a comfy bed so she doesn't have to lie on the floor. Also raise her bed a few inches to make it easier on her joints getting in and out.
Reply:Try Nimble
Reply:try a hydrotheraphy centre water temp is about 30oc rather than 17 - 19 which the sea or river is roughlyand acupunture and condrotin and glucosamine works a treat for mine plus rottie like waterx
Reply:please don't think I'm crazy when i say this but veterinary acupuncture works extremely well on skeletal/bone issues like this. i worked for a vet that did acupuncture for 2 years and it was amazing how well it worked. I've been a vet tech for 4 years and this is the best alternative to surgery and in most cases more effective.
