People with allergies, how do you cope?

I was just diagnosed with multiple allergies a month ago. I am

allergic to the whole list of things: wormwood, fescue, dust, dust mite, cats and dogs, feathers, dry fish food. Now I started taking primrose oil and got the severest reaction, and it's not on the list! And I have it atypical: I am fine with it, but the next day my face and eyes get swollen, and I can't even open my eyes. How am I supposed to know what else I am allergic to, since there are not even tests for these things? What do you do?

People with allergies, how do you cope?
You make inferences based on what you know you're allergic to. For example, if you're allergic to cats and dogs there's a strong possibility you're also allergic to ferrets or whatever. You're probably allergic to feathers and fish flakes because they're substances that harbor dust mites. Try to avoid other things that harbor dust mites, like silk flowers.

You find tricks that help you avoid your allergens. I'm also allergic to wool. If it's cheap wool, sometimes just being near it makes me itch and sneeze. I learned what clothes made of wool look like; they usually have a different texture and then I know not to touch them. If I'm shopping for sweaters in the winter usually I just wear a pair of leather gloves while shopping to avoid accidentally touching it. You might try the same.

Always take your antihistamines and other drugs prescribed by your allergist. At the very least rinse your nose with saline a couple of times a day. Rinse your eyes, too.

Other than that it's just living and learning!

Reply:When you are in an allergenic state you basically become allergic to everything. Consult with a Naturopathic Doctor. You'll need to do a detox diet for a couple of weeks and then things will go back to normal.
Reply:I used to be allergic to a lot of those things too. And a lot more. I got tired though of using different drugs and over the counter medications that weren't doing anything to heal me of these different things. Then, I discovered herbs. Something that people have been using for thousands of years. Boy, was I a dummy. I found a site: herbdoc.com that sells products and gives information not only about herbs, but about lifestyles. They tell why 95% of all diseases whether major or minor are caused by crappy diets and use of drugs and over-the-counter medicines. Twelve years ago I changed my diet and have been using different herbs since. Not only do I not get sick any more, I no longer have allergies. And it only cost me about $100 per year to maintain this kind of lifestyle.
Reply:I take really good allergy pills! lol!
Reply:Like primrose oil, it will be known when you come in contact. It is a consolation that you know most of the things causing you allergy. Think of the ppl who develop severe allergy time %26amp; again and they don't know what is causing it.

All the best!
Reply:To cope up with allergies first you have to be exposed to the triggering factors that causes your allergies. The best way to know your allergy you must go to a doctor (a physician who specializes on allergies) and have some tests.
Reply:I have seasonal allergies and I can't really cope well enough.. Try being on-line all day and next moment you're sneezing your head off.. LOL! That would be me. I just buy OTC allergy pills, can't afford Rx medicine. My boyfriend of 4 years had bought me TOP-CARE allergy capsules that he bought at I think Walmart. Buy the cheap ones.
Reply:I feel for you, that can be so miserable. My daughter has many allergies, we did all of the tests on her and the list is very long. We did allergy shots that helped some for many years, and several different scripts. The thing that has helped her the most is changing over all of our products to safer more natural things. There are many things that could be effecting your allergies, shampoo, bath soap, skin care, laundry detergents, dish soaps, bath cleaners, and the list goes on and on. Dust mites are a big one for sure, and we found something in the natural products that kills the dust mites in your pillows and bedding. Feathers, you might check to see what your pillow is made out of, do you have a goose down comforter? Try to eliminate as many of the things that you know you are allergic to for starters, and that will help, get them out of your home. If you are interested in finding safer natural products to use you can go to www.smartlivingsense.com there will be someone there that can help you for sure. Good luck.
Reply:Can't think of the person at the hospital who does it, but your g.p. should know and be able to refer you to them.. Most allergies fall into "groups", i.e. animal hair, feathers, plants, fruits, foods, etc., This person puts a miniscule concentrated amount of several possible things that could cause an allergic reaction onto your skin, (quite often on your arm), and then after a certain amount of time - mine was 48hrs. for one lot and 7 days for another - according to the reaction or not on your skin, they know what "group" of things are causing the allergies. They can then work from that and narrow things down even more and be pretty specific on what you are/are not allergic to. It does take time, and I do feel for you, but try and bear with it because it is worth it in the end. There is nothing worse than going out for a meal or something, and then half hour later starting to look like elephant man or coughing and sneezing. There's quite a few things I can't use or eat, but I make a joke of it with people I know now - live on a lettuce leaf (washed in distilled water, of course) and only bathe in milk, like Cleopatra!). Not really! Get's me out of doing the washing up at some friends' and relatives' homes though at times as I can't use their washing-up liquid and am also allergic to that powder stuff that they put in rubber gloves!

Do find out as much as you can though, because if you have multiple allergies, you could also be allergic to some medicines, i.e. penicillin, and should you be taken ill and not know, you could be in serious trouble!

Also, if you do have multiple allergies etc., ask your local pharmacy where you can get an "S.O.S. Talisman". They come in the form of a locket or I.D. bracelet, but when you open them up, they have a paper insert that opens out and you list your allergies, medication you are taking or should be given in an emergency, your G.P.'s name/tel. no., your own name, address etc., and who to contact in an emergency.

Hope this may be of some assistance.
