I have been 2 cm and not effacing for three weeks now. The baby is as low as he can go with things this way. I have been having contractions on and off (more on then off) for a week and a half ten minutes apart. My doctor told me to take Evening Primrose Oil to soften my cervix. I have tried (and continue to try): walking, spicy foods, pressure points, and sex. Nothing has changed. Anyone know anything I don't?
I am now past all THREE due dates my Dr. gave me and still only 2cm, any advice?
I had this with two babies. I know that anything where you kind of bounce is likely to help things get started. With my second child, the doc threatened to use the IV with oxitocin or pitocin or whatever. I rode my horse and trotted around. My daughter came by eight the next morning. I have heard of women driving on bumpy roads to get things going.
Good luck!
Reply:I remember being in the exact same position as you not so long ago - i know its not what you want hear but just hang on. They will induce you when the time is right.
I on the other hand took a bottle of caster oil - it brought on my labour within hours but i ended up having a c-section as the baby did a poop inside me which is quite dangerous. Everything turned out fine and my baby girl is fab but thinking about it now i feel a bit bad for what i did - hang in there and don't do anything rash.
Good luck to you!

Reply:I was 2 weeks past the due date my dr gave me and was induced, on my own I would have never gone into labor.
But the dr made me wait, I was so tired of being pregnant.
Just hang in there, relax (as best as you can)
Congrats.
Reply:induce labor
Reply:I went swimming right before I went into labor with my son.
Reply:I took EP Oil to get me started. why not try and pierce the jelly capsuls and insert them next to the cervix... as it contains natual prostrgen which is also the same thing they use to sofen the cervix to induce labour. I did this and my waters broke with in hours..........
Reply:I'm sure you know that due dates can be off by 2 weeks. I'm sure he'll induce you if you go too far.
Reply:keep trying everything i have heard that hard sex can send you over
Reply:Your just having bad luck hun! Keep walking and sex, sex, sex. When the time is right, that baby will come out. I promise. Maybe you should just relax and let it happen natural~!
Reply:You're pretty safe to use castor oil now if you want to.
The way to do it is to wait until you are both overdue AND having a lot of prelabor symptoms, such as the Braxton Hicks you are describing.
Mix ONLY 3 teaspoons in a glass of pepsi, yes pepsi. Not a large glass of pepsi either, just enough so you can chug down the castor oil. It will taste like you drank vaseline for about 5 minutes. There are worse things though...
You will probably go into labor sometime within the next three to six hours, maybe sooner. And be prepared because your contractions will probably be quite close together from the get-go.
Don't take any more than 3 teaspoons, or you will just poop and get dehydrated and sick. The oil will simply kickstart the contractions, and not your bowels if you take the right ammount.
It doesn't matter how dilated or effaced you are, but you do need to be past your due date and showing signs that you truly are "ripe" otherwise your labor will just begin and then stall and you don't want to have that happen either to you or your baby.
Castor oil is somewhat controversial simply because there's no scientific research that factually tells us anything about its effects on the fetus. But then, they administer things like narcotics and anti-depressants to pregnant women all the time even though there has never been a control group of women who've consented to studies either. IMO the latter is much more dangerous, especially when prolonged, whereas castor oil is quite natural. Just remember, less is more. Don't be tempted to take the proverbial "four ounces" you'll just get sick and have a terrible labor.
Good luck!
Reply:My friend tried stairs, lots and lots of stairs. In the end I think it is just when the baby is ready it will come. The DR will suggest induction if she thinks it is neccessary. If you absolutely can't stand it anymore, you could try asking for an induction.
Reply:I would just wait for a few more days. I'm sure that if it lasts too long, the doctor will induce you.
Reply:Um how about induction
