Has anyone ever used evening primrose oil to induce labor?

if so did it actually work? how long did it take for you to go into labor after using it? where do you purchase it?

i am almost 38 weeks with my 2nd baby and have been 3cm and 75% effaced for the last month. the ob stripped my membranes and nothing has happened from that. so if i dont go on my own in the next 5 days then they are going induce me. (which i would like to avoid if it all possible.) i have walked and walked, had sex, ate spicy food and nothing. i will not try castor oil (so no need to suggest that.)

also the reason they are inducing me is because the size of the baby. so please dont tell me the baby will come when its ready.

thanks in advance

Has anyone ever used evening primrose oil to induce labor?
I tried to with my second pregnancy, and I'm now on my 4th successful pregnancy. It did not do anything for me, and I would not expect it to do much for you. It softens the cervix, and if you are 75% effaced already, I wouldn't expect it to make too much of a change.

My 3rd pregnancy was twins, and I was dilated to 4cm and 75% effaced for 5 weeks before I was induced. I did all the traditional things to induce labor, and none of them worked. I had 40 inches and 12lbs of baby in me, and not even that would do it. As far as the baby's size, the ultrasound can be quite off in estimating, as much as a pound either way.

I know you don't want to hear that he/she will come when ready, but it's true.
Reply:Evening primrose doesn't induce labor. It softens the cervix to prepare your body for labor but doesn't bring it about. Yes it can be effective if you put capsules into the vagina at bedtime. I did this for about a week before my son was born. It has no harmful effects and does make things "stretchier" down there.
Reply:Yes Primrose oil softens the cervix. My midwife said my cervix was like butter before I had my son and I still couldn't have him vaginally. It will not induce labor but it will soften the cervix. I started taking it at like 36wks I think? I went to 41wks. If they think he is over 10lbs then I would see why you're concerned but it they say hes big like 8 or 9 lbs they can be very wrong on those calculations. My son was supposed to be 7 1/2 or 8 lbs and he was only 6lbs 8oz....

Let your body do the work.
Reply:well i mean not to be rude but the baby will come when its ready bein induced is not bad its no different then real labor and because you are efaced and dial. you will probably go fast from inducing and in all honesty the baby should not be here for another 2 weeks
Reply:My doc told me about it, but I did not try it. They have it at meijer in a pill form. She told me that there is not real chance of it working and advised against the castor oil. I have also heard of drinking rassberry tea. Just keep moving around and having sex! It will be a while before you can have intercourse again, so have some fun. As much as you can!!! LOL
Reply:All it does is soften the cervix, its not guaranteed to start labour so if youve tried sex and the semen didnt soften the cervix, the primrose oil may not even work. Worth a try tho.
Reply:Yes it works

Congrats and Good Luck
