Evening primrose oil?
Evening Primrose Oil will not induce contractions. It can and will, however, help your cervix become favorable. As with any other method, though, it will ONLY work if your body is ready (the same thing applies to being induced with Pitocin-even that will not work if your body is not ready).
Evening Primrose Oil is used as either an oral supplement and/or a vaginal suppository. Its use should be discussed with your prenatal caregiver beforehand.
It works because it contains Prostaglandins-which is naturally found in sperm. So, performing oral sex on your husband or having intercourse with him is a safer, more natural way to try and induce labor.
Again, as with ANY medication you should consult your prenatal caregiver before using Evening Primrose Oil.
Reply:it is not to induce or to start labor..... it is to help you thin out. you can take them orraly or insert into you *******....
i tried them once last week. i think you have to do it offten for it to help. and then as you soften you will start to dialate more. but not to start labor just to prepare your cervix....
Reply:My best friend used castor oil when she was pregnant! It brought on contractions within 7-8 hours .... Very mild at first ... Just felt like pressure but by the second day (when she took more) she was in full labor and ready to go.. Was there with her so I saw everything .. Good Luck!
Reply:This product only softens the cervix! I took it the last two weeks of my pregnancy, and I softened before I dialated so I would say it did it's job. No side effects for me!
Reply:I took evening primrose oil my last three weeks of pregnancy. It will not bring on contractions, but it will help soften (or efface) your cervix. It really did help me. While I didn't dialate early, when I did dialate it happened fast!
I was a few days (6ish) overdue and I took black cohosh and that brought on labor. I took it around 12am and was in the hospital in full blown labor by 7am.
