When i went to the drs. she said i was only 1cm dilated. And i am due Sept.3rd, if i don't have him by then my dr. has scheduled an induction a week later. I was induced for my other one and i don't want to be induced with this one. I have seen that sex helps, but i don't see my boyfriend as often as i like to. And then there is that primrose oil but i don't know how many to take and there are different miligrams. I have been walking when i can. I sometimes feel the side of my belly get rock hard and then goes away i don't know if thats a contraction or not. Plus i came back positive for that Group B Strep, so thats a bummer kinda. So basically to put it all in a nutshell what can i do to get my cervix to dilate faster and bring on contractions? Someone had told me that i shouldn't rush it to just let nature take its coarse, when the baby is ready to come then he's ready, and everyone is different on how they deliver or when.
I will be 38 weeks on monday the 20th, and i am looking to see what i can use to start my labor going?
Sexual intercourse - This works in two ways to induce labor. First, female orgasm can bring on contractions. Second, semen contains prostaglandins. Prostaglandins work to help ripe and soften the cervix.
Nipple stimulation - Stimulating the nipples triggers the production of natural oxytocin. Oxytocin contracts the uterus.
Accupressure - Accupressure may be helpful in inducing labor. Some pressure points you can try are the roof of your mouth, the webbing of your fingers between your pointer finger and thumb, and above the ankle about four fingerspaces above is a pressure point.
Stripping the membranes - This can only be done by a health care provider. Your doctor or midwife will seperate the bag of waters from your cervix and this is thought to help encourage labor to start.
Raspberry Leaf Tea - Rasberry leaf tea is not actually known for it's labor inducing properties, but it is believed to be helpful in toning the uterus and helping with labor.
Cinnamin stick tea - Take cinnamin sticks and boil them into a tea and drink. It actually tastes good so even if it doesn't bring on labor it may help you to relax.
Evening primrose oil - Evening primrose oil comes in small capsules similar to vitamin E. It is believed to help soften and ripen the cervix.
Walking - Walking may help to get baby to drop into proper position.
Visualization/relaxation - Relaxation can help with labor induction. Try doing relaxation exercisers. They are also good practice for when labor actually begins.
Pineapple, cumin tea, eggplant parmesan, and spicy foods - are another thing you can try.
Other methods we do not recommend for inducing labor
Castor oil - Castor oil is also used for inducing labor. It tastes horrible! It is likely to make you feel sick and it probably won't work.
Herbs - There are other herbs you can use to induce labor. Without consulting your doctor or midwife we do not recommend the use of herbs.
Reply:Nipple stimualtion is a good way to start labor. It produces the hormone that actually starts labor (for the life of me, I can't remember the name of it, but you get the point). That's something that you can obviously do for yourself (though, not near as fun that way).
I was also Group B Strep positive. It's no big deal, really. You'll just have to have Pennicillin in your IV during labor. It REALLY burns bad, though! I thought it was more painful than the labor pains and I was induced! The baby did turn out fine after it, though, so ease your worries with that!
Reply:Don't rush baby!I know how it is them last couple of weeks. The baby know when he or she is done baking!I know you want he or she to be health so let baby take his or her own course.
Reply:Don't push it, the last couple weeks are sooo important for lung development... I was 2 cm dialated for 3 weeks and 5 days... then I went into labor and I stayed at 2 cm for the first 12 hours of labor. (Then they gave me an epidural to prepare for a c-section because they didn't think I would dialate. The dr went to dinner to give the epidural time to kick in, and in the 1/2 she was gone I went from 2 to 10 and my daughter was coming on her own... go figure!)
Reply:NONE of the wives tales or "suggestions" on to help labor start WORK!
NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM WILL WORK BECAUSE THE BABY WILL COME WHEN HE/SHE WANTS TO COME!
ONLY a DOCTOR can FORCE the child to come BEFORE he/she is READY!!!
Reply:i have also heard that if you drive down a bumpy road can help get things moving and i have heard that scaring a pregnant woman can make her go into labor... im not sure if they work or not but theres a few ideas you could try
Reply:Primrose oil doesn't work. Sex is good, but it's the nipple stimulation that releases the hormones that trigger labor...you can do that on your own. Walking, stimulation and time are all you can do at this point. Good luck!
