I am 35 weeks pregnant and would like to induce myself around 38 weeks. My doc said it was fine to go ahead and try. I have heard of primrose oil, castor oil, egg plant and of course the same way of getting pregnant is supposed to get you unpregnant! What did any of you do? Have you heard of any of these things?
What are some good natural ways to induce labor?
From a nurse educator (not me): 1. Exposure to lavender (bath products, potpourri, candles, etc.) 2. firm massaging pressure on the bottom of the feet, especially the along the middle, sliding back and forth. 3. Firm pressure applied on both sides of the muscle between the thumb and forefinger. 4. Low impact exercise (walking, etc.) - the inverse is true as well...bed rest is prescribed to delay labor.
Reply:I was 3 days overdue. I suggested we have sex. That morning I woke starting labor pains.
Reply:sex, pineapples, raspberry tea,hot curries, castor oil (be careful), walking (if you can) tweaking your nipples i am 37 weeks on thurs and i am going to try all of the above but i shall go easy on the castor oil tho i am fed up i want this baby out now!! good luck
Reply:Go for a long walk in the mall or outdoors if it's nice. When he/she is ready they will let you know.
Reply:I have a friend who used castor oil and it worked. (Her baby was measuring really big and she said, "Oh no way...he's coming out NOW!" lol) You can also try massaging your ankles as there's a reflexology point connected to the uterus there. Also, do yoga squats many times a day. Spread your legs and bring your body and bum almost to the ground and stay there for a while. Yoga squats aren't recommened after 35 weeks for this very reason.
Reply:sex twice a day for like 2 weeks defiantly works
Reply:I heard lots of walking %26amp; having sex does the trick. Walking will help to engage the baby more and sex helps jump start the contractions. Good luck, but remember that in the end, baby will come when baby is ready!!
Reply:walking is one of the best ways.
Reply:castor oil can be dangerous so don't try that. You can end up causing real problems! Please don't do it.
Clary sage oil massaged into your bump, (essential oil) and in a fairly hot bath...of course spicey food; good sex!, uphill walks...
however i went a week overdue everytime despite trying this from 35 weeks!
raspberry leaf tea...
as your midwife/doctor for a 'stretch and sweep' the most effective way to bring on labour naturally. They sweep the membranes around babies head. Dont try it at home...
Reply:For me walking helped. Just do alot of walking. Good Luck
Reply:my dr. to ld me nipple stimulation for caouple hours a day might help..good luck
Reply:I have hears that Castor oil works. I have had three friends that have used this method and it worked for them, if you don't mind what the Castor oil does mind you. I also had a friend that had a bet with her sister that she would have her baby on the due date. We walked through 12 inch deep snow to put her in labor. But hey it worked she won the $100 bet and split it with me.
As for me, nothing worked. My son was 7 days over-due and was 9 pounds when he was born.
Reply:walking, sex and when all else fails..this is worth a shot!

ETA ~ DON'T do the CASTOR OIL!!! Too many complications can arise!
Reply:Raspberry leaf tea apparently can help. I did a lot of walking the day before I went into labor and was drinking raspberry leaf tea for a couple of days.
